Magaly Chavez

Engagement Team — Long Beach

Magaly is a housing and community engagement expert with a passion for empowering underserved communities and uplifting women of color.

Background

Before Ichor, Magaly worked in local government as a housing policy advocate and community educator. In her role, she led community engagement efforts to educate the public on rent control, eviction protections, and California housing Law. She also partnered with community organizations to offer additional legal resources and support for tenants facing eviction, harassment, and rent increases. In addition, she educated landlords on and enforced compliance of rent control and eviction protection in the City of Richmond and advocated for policy that strengthened tenant protections. Although no longer an employee of the Rent Program, she believes housing is a human right and continues to volunteer with housing organizations and advocate for affordable and accessible housing. Before joining the housing field, Magaly worked with various local governments and nonprofits with a focus on health, police accountability, higher education, and homelessness.

Magaly's experience with community engagement, policy, and managing community partnerships to create positive social change made her an ideal fit for Ichor.

Outside of Work

In her spare time, Magaly enjoys traveling, scuba diving, trying new restaurants, and discussing cryptocurrency and financial literacy.
